The film is a travelogue of the life and works of the «rebetis» musician Athanasios Athanasiou. It outlines a troubled adventure in the metropolitan centres where «rebetiko» music flourished as well as it’s hero’s life through his own narration; how he left Pireus in his poverty and his songs and went to America, and how he ended up in Aegina at the age of 88, alone and abandoned, forced to make musical instruments to support himself. Along the way we are able to hear him perform all of his songs which were never recorded under any label.
